We are the Champions!
Posted by csdrcheer on October 29th, 2007
This past week the CSDR Cheer Team has been very busy! When the volleyball and football games were cancelled Wednesday due to the poor air quality attributed to the fires, the cheer team stayed in Riverside and practiced indoors to be ready for their first competition against hearing teams. While everyone else was relaxing at home on Thursday and Friday, the cheer team was on campus practicing. Despite the fact that Riverside had a power outage on Friday, the team spent the whole day learning the end of the dance and putting the competition routine together.
All of their hard work paid off! On Saturday, Oct. 27, the CSDR Cheer Team attended the Sharp International Cheer Competition at Norte Vista High School in Riverside. For all but five of our team members, hearing competition was a new experience! Joining us for the first time in CSDR history, our Elementary Cubbie Cheer Team also competed at the hearing competition.
I am proud to announce that the CSDR Cheer Team and Cubbie Team both won 1st place in their divisions! The high school team earned 91.25 points out of 100! Our Cubbies earned . But the most exciting news of all is that CSDR won Best Spirit over all of the hearing teams that were there! Go Cubs!!
Our Cubs and Cubbies also entered individual contests that were open to anyone who wanted to be involved. The outcome was awesome! Open Partner Stunts: Jerome Starr (CSDR graduate ’05, former cheerleader, and assistant elementary cheer coach) won 1st place with Karina Torres. High School Partner Stunts: 1st place – Louie Barrios and Crystal Hernandez. Best Toe-Touch Jump: 1st place – Jerome Starr, 2nd place – Louie Barrios, 3rd place – Karina Torres. Elementary Best Toe-Touch: 2nd place: Jarita Bustamante. Best Tumbling: 1st place: Louie Barrios, 2nd place (Elementary division): Jarita Bustamante.
After the competition many of the judges and spectators approached me and complimented our team. When you see these team members be sure to congratulate them for representing CSDR and the Deaf community extremely well: CSDR Cheer: (seniors) Louie Barrios, Nicole Castle, Crystal Hernandez, Annette Hocum, Sufia Jamal, Roxy Rocha, Karina Torres, Nathan Yoo, (juniors) Marco Duarte, Wallace Soriano, (sophomores) Alejandrina Contreras, Renea Corley-Gamble, (freshmen) Zelene Sandoval, Marilyn Rivas, Ian Vasquez.
Cubbies: Darissa Bashaw, Janae Blakely, Jarita Bustamante, Jalena Cochran, Janelle Coons, Brianna Lesti, Sukie Miller, Janae Mixon, Sabrina Padilla, Catalina Romero, Christina Vu, Ciara Williams, Malia Zornoza.
Full of CSDR Cub Pride,

School’s Out!
Posted by csdrcheer on June 15th, 2007
Today’s the last day of school at CSDR. Everyone has gone home about 2 hours ago.
It’s summer break!
We will resume our new cheerleading season, 2007-08, starting August 19th. We will begin with Fall Training Camps to prepare the 2007 Cubs football season. We may expect to have approximately 22 cheerleaders with 8 returning members next Fall! With the fallout of previous uniform company that went out of business, we had to start all over again with the uniforms. We have ordered our new uniforms from Varsity Spirit Fashions which we will expect to be ready in the Fall.
CSDRcheer.com website will be in a full extreme makeover hopefully in August/September.
We’ll be adding sponsorship opportunities for any businesses who’d love to sponsor our cheer team to alleviate the costs for our uniforms, accessories, and summer camp.
Have a great summer! See you in Fall ‘07.
